Music Comic Mark Eddie recently performed in Scottsdale, Arizona for The Arizona Diamondbacks - The Major League Baseball Team - and let us in on some of the highlights of the night. Check out his synopsis and photos from the event - including Mark's very own official Team Jersey.

Basically I was in Scottsdale, Arizona performing for "The Arizona Diamondbacks" MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM! It was an event for the organization and players during which I sat and had dinner with Ken Kendrick (Team Owner), Willie Bloomquist (Star Outfielder), Derrick Hall (Diamondbacks' President) and another star player on the team. They even presented me with an official team jersey! I'm Number 11, and I guess I'm officially the "Team Rock Comic!" I'll be sitting right with the team in the dug-out during their upcoming games in LA! Geez, hope my Dodger Fan friends don't hate me too much.

TV Review of AlcatraZzz

Wednesday, January 18, 2011
By Frank Murgia

‘Alcatraz’ is NO ‘Lost’ but it feels lost in many ways.

I am not a television critic, just a blogger who watches way too much television. This post will not go in to any of the show plot or deeply into the characters. If you watched the show then read on, if not you will be lost. (No pun intended…yet)

TV Review of Alcatraz
From the creator of “Lost” (J.J. Abrams) you will find a few familiarities but not in a good way in my opinion.
  • A character with a beard shadow named Jack.
  • Jorge Garcia (‘Hurley’ from ‘Lost’) plays the unassuming innocent sad-sac who finds himself pulled into a mystery. (He will always be Hurley and his range will never change)
  • The same music team from 'Lost' and it feels forced and out of place. (Like taking the score from 'Star Wars' and using it in ‘Battlefield Earth’.)

I thought each hour was boring and especially unappealing and uninteresting when the timeline goes back to the early Alcatraz days. I know these shows that want to be 'Lost' try to be confusing and laden with subliminal number-clues and pay attention to detail dialogue. 'Try' being the key word as great shows develop organically and create new ways to stimulate the viewer and 'Alcatraz' locks you up behind bars and forces the engine of a Ferrari into a Gremlin and asks you to believe it is a Ferrari.

‘Lost’ was relatable in a small way that many people fly and planes have and do crash and this is a real-life happening that creates a real-life fear and emotion. Trying to relate to 1960’s Alcatraz prisoners is not everyday relatable and to me narrows the target audience. Does anything in this show appeal to female viewer? (6-7 Killings per episode, Dirty Alcatraz, Jorge Garcia?)

Did you watch the 2-hour television premiere of  “Alcatraz” on FOX?

If so, will you watch again?

Thoughts? (Feel free to bang the comments box below)

I close with “The lead girl is cute and frumpy but Hurley is still fat and Lumpy”

Ed Palilla's "From the Outhouse to the Poorhouse" Movie Review of That chick with that tattoo on her back or whatever…

A review of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' from someone you really wouldn’t expect to watch it.

Last week I went to see the new film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the book with the same title. Amongst the people I went with to see it, I was in the minority because I had not read any of the books of the trilogy (Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire/Kicked the Hornets’ Nest). Those that had were glowing with anticipation to see this American version of the movie. (A Swedish version was made in ’09). Despite not knowing much about the plot, I found it gave me an advantage because I got to discover the story and figure it out as I went.

Without giving away too much about it, I’ll try to explain the 2 hour 38 minute movie. It takes place in Sweden with a publisher (Daniel Craig) that has just been public embarrassed. He is his recruited by a business man to investigate a murder of his niece 40 years prior. (Craig) eventually recruits the protagonist of the story, the girl with the dragon tattoo (played by Rooney Mara, the granddaughter of the great Rooney Family). She comes from a very troubled past, which you are given a glimpse of in the early parts of the movie. The 2 of them research and work toward solving the mystery. I am not going to give you any details and spoil it for you.

Overall I really did enjoy this movie. It has a great murder mystery that pulls you into the story. Rooney Mara does a great job as the girl, and Daniel Craig is good in it as well while maintaining his standard look of “I am trying to solve 345/54” throughout the entire movie. It’s long, so make sure you get the big popcorn and use the bathroom before it starts.

Grade: Worth watching, but wait till it comes out on DVD*

* I have a rule with my best friend on telling each other about movies to avoid over hyping a movie. There are 3 ways to rate a movie 1) Worth seeing in theaters 2) Worth seeing, but wait till it comes out on DVD 3) Don’t waste your time watching it.

"A Biased Review" | 2011 Year-in-ReviewPart 2 of 2

January 16, 2012
Written by - Meat Park
Twitter - @meatpark

---

Welcome all, to PART 2 of my 2011 year-in-review rating different categories of events on how much they ruled or, in most cases, didn’t rule.  Let’s get right to it and finish last year off.

A Biased Review 2011 Year-in-Review

Economy – 2/5
Quick, go check your bank account.  Do you have enough to survive this month?  Yeah, I don’t either.  Thanks to overvalued property, unregulated banks and the desire to chase down the American Dream, we’re all poor.  On the bright side, I am still able to get loaded on a case of beer and order a large pizza for less than 20 dollars.

Sports – 1/5

Hockey – Boston Bruins won the cup, and no one likes people from the Northeast.  The Patriots and Red Sox are both teams that nobody likes, so sending a championship up for hockey makes me feel like they’re not going to appreciate it.  Combined with the fact that, for the majority of 2011, the very best hockey player in the world was ON our team, but unable to play due to concussions made me have a very bad taste in my mouth by year’s end.  This is not including the fact that Geno was hurt early 2011, and a myriad of other terrible occurrences that happened in the rink.

Football – Green Bay Packers beat the Steelers.  I don’t need to go into detail here do I?

Baseball - St. Louis Cardinals

Basketball – Dallas Mavericks

I’m not going into detail about either of these because I THINK, as a person catering mostly to people in Pittsburgh, there’s not a lot of my readers who watch more than 15 seconds of basketball in an entire season.  The Pirates are a yearly disaster, sucking most of my will to live and desire to watch live baseball by the time game 20 rolls around.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK NUTTING, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

I also did an extensive research (one Google search) for other popular sports in the U.S.  One of the results was “Combat Sports”.  I’m not sure what happened in the wide world of Combat Sports this year, but I can promise it was awesome with a name like that.

Technology – 2/5

This section was written by a close personal friend and tech guru; @brianedwards.  He is currently a marketing director at some hoity-toity hi-tech company, and he was kind enough to share his thoughts on technology…

Everyone Got a Smartphone

It's been building every year for the last few years, but now, chances are that you and everyone you know has a smartphone.  For the most part, they are all big touch screens that have the internet, apps, and a camera on the back.  Most everybody is dumping their Blackberries and jumping on an iPhone or Android device.  This is a good thing because Blackberry as a company is the funniest/most tragic thing that happened in tech in 2011.

Blackberry basically invented smartphones but somehow gave up trying to come up with new ideas in 2007.  They made as far as color screens and cameras and just called it a day.  Everyone in the leadership of that company is either mentally handicapped or completely wasted.  Don't believe me about the wasted part?  Tell that to the crew of the intercontinental flight that had to TURN AROUND ON ITS WAY TO CHINA because 2 high level Blackberry executives were so drunk and disorderly that they had to be put in restraints.

It's worth mentioning that even though everybody has a tiny device in their pocket that is connected to everything all the time and better than any computer they have ever owned, people spend an unbelievable amount of time complaining about their smartphones.  I'm not directly quoting Louis C.K. here, but he summed it up like this:  "The worst cell phone in the world is a miracle of modern science."   Stop complaining.

All Your Friends Think They Are Interesting

Now that all your friends have smartphones, staying friends with many of them has likely become pretty tough.  That's because everyone now thinks that everything they do or think is interesting.  They'll tell you when they wake up in the morning, take a picture of their coffee and talk about how badly they needed it, follow up with some cryptic comments about work drama, check in EVERYWHERE, and complain in a way that sounds like they're not complaining and also find dozens of ways to sound humble while bragging.  It's insufferable.

Heap on top of this the massive explosion of social networks that attach themselves to other social networks so you can just start clipping and tagging things that you like willy-nilly and spamming the hell out of your friends with them, and you will see why 2011 was one of the most disastrous years in the history of the internet.

Old People Discovered Social Networking

In 2011, old people all over the world discovered social networking.  The implications range from everything to your parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles wanting to be your Facebook friends to ignorant exposes in stuffy old people publications that basically conclude that Twitter is directly causing violent revolutions all over the world.  Our only saving grace as a generation is that old people only seem to be able to figure out Facebook, and we can all just start blocking them and telling them we don't use it.

Every Company Ever Made a Tablet Computer

In 2010 Apple introduced the iPad and sold millions of them.  They continued to sell millions of them in 2011.  Every other company on the face of the planet made a tablet to compete with the iPad this year and some even sold as many as a dozen of them.  This isn't a pro-Apple statement.  It's a statement of fact that really underlines how poor most tech companies are at understanding what actual people want.

A tablet computer is basically a giant smartphone that doesn't make phone calls and makes it even easier for dudes to view inappropriate content on the internet everywhere they go.   Pro tip for all you other manufacturers out there.  Just get a big battery, a nice screen, make it cheap, and let dudes know how fast the web browser is, and you'll have yourself a winner.

Tech Companies Failed At Marketing

Do tech companies watch their ads or show them to real people before they put them out there?  Do they learn from their mistakes? Are they all high as kites?  The answers are no, no, and yes.

Consider every DROID commercial ever.  Every last one of them looks like a terrifying scene from some not too distant future where machines rule the world.  It's either that or the DROIDs are in car chases in black vans with missiles and stuff like some kind of top secret weapon that every villain in the world is out to get.  I don't know about you guys, but I'm scared as hell of the Droid RAZR.

Parts 1 & 2 Full Review;
  • Politics – 0/5
  • Science – 5/5
  • Entertainment – 3/5
  • Deaths – 3/5
  • Economy – 1/5
  • Sports – 1/5
  • Technology – 2/5
  • Overall Score – 42%

I’ve really got to stop writing about things I dislike, as it’s having a major effect on my usually sunny disposition in life.  Overall, 2011 was a below average year though.  Let’s hope that 2012 brings all kinds of awesome and unique things to the table.

However, until next time, keep living the dream.

You can follow @meatpark on twitter.  In fact, he’s always looking for new and interesting things to cover in his “Biased Reviews”, so give him a follow and tell him you like his beard.

Where;s Jim KrennThe 102.5fm WDVE Pittsburgh morning radio show, still number one made a decision to remove beloved Pittsburgh personality Jim Krenn the co-host and branded name for over two decades pulled off of the airways on December 6th, 2011 with no explanation other than '...the station is going in a different direction.'

Friends, fans and listeners have come out in mass on social media with questions, anger and loving support. Mr. Krenn is still under contract and limited in what he can say from his closed door meetings with parent company Clear Channel Communications.

Today Jim Krenn posted a message on his Facebook page.

I can't say much at this time because I am still under contract. I just wanted to thank you for giving me one helluva ride on DVE. Your loyalty and support is the main reason I've had the privilege of hanging out with you in the mornings for over two decades. It has been incredible reading all your posts. Your kind words and loyalty mean the world to me. As you know I feel the same loyalty towards you - Pittsburgh loyalty! Words cannot express the gratitude I have for you – the people who have always stood up for me, believed in me, and have always had my back. You have even walked by my side and prayed for me, helping me find my lost dog. You are Pittsburghers, and I am proud to be one of you!

Talk soon,

Jimmy Krenn

The Washington Post recently released its 2012 In/Out List and Pittsburgh made the cut, earning the title of new "In" City, overtaking Portland, Oregon. From the scenery to the food (Primanti's!), art, reasonable rent, residents and beyond, Pittsburgh impresses people from far and wide. A Londoner, Arthur Lea, visiting the city recently said, "It's quite pretty; it's a lot prettier than I thought it would be, especially on a nice day." And as Pittsburgh resident Alphonso Randolph puts it: "Wonderful city, wonderful people, and it's a blessing."

Check out the full story - Pittsburgh Is New "In" City Of 2012 on Washington Post.

What to look forward to in 2012.
After complaining a goodamount about 2011, let’s look at some off the great things going on thisyear, especially in Pittsburgh.

1)    Yet another Steelers playoff appearence.
2)    The return of Sidney Crosby?
3)    The Malkin-Neal-Sullivan line.
4)    PittsburghInternational Auto Show at David L. Lawrence Convention Center (Feb 17-20)
Lots of new makes and models from all over the world.
5)    Cityof Pittsburgh Marathon (May 6)
Brings a ton of money into the city. Also, nice to see 25,000 people keeping inshape. I know I am not.
6)    PedalPittsburgh (May 22)
The Pittsburgh Marathon’s little cousin. The bike race around the city that hasmany levels of length from 5 miles to 60 miles.
7)    ThreeRivers Arts Festival (June 1-10)
The true beginning of summer to me over Memorial Day. It just doesn’t feelright until I have eaten fair food sausage, pulled pork, stromboli and especiallyfries with cheese, standing at The Point
8)    The PointPark Water Fountain actually working this year????
9)    Kennyat Heinz again (June 30)
Perhaps the best tailgate of the year. Always soooooo much fun.
10)  The3 Rivers Regatta
It’s always cool to go up to Mt. Washington or West End Overlook and see all 3rivers just full of boats. Plus Zambelli always puts on a great show for the 4th.
11)  Thepossibility of the Pirates being in 1st place in the Central in Julyagain!!!
12)  RibFest
Do I really need to say more?
13)  Light-Upnight (Nov 18)
A perennial highlight of the beauty of the Pittsburgh Skyline. The ice rink isPPG place is cool, but my favorite part is the gingerbreadhouse/Santa-around-the-world display on the ground floor of PPG 1.
Enjoy 2012 and get out to as many of these as you can. Youwon’t regret it.

It's 2012 now, 2011 is in the books.  It was a great year for me as I took a lot of major steps in almost every aspect of my life. Towards the end of 2011 I needed a break from writing, I actually wrote more before I had this blog, go figure. I'll get a little more personal in upcoming posts, but it’s a New Year now and for some a chance for a new beginning.  Many are hoping to lose weight, quit smoking, or just be an all-around better person.  Many will lose focus and give up faster than a Republican nominee.

Here’s a list of people who need to have a good 2012:

Ray Lewis:  Lewis is getting up there, and I’m curious how much he has left in the tank with this being the Ravens best shot at a Super Bowl in years. Plus with Gadhafi, Bin Laden, and Kim Jong Ill all dead, the market for potential psychopath dieticians of second and third world countries is at an all-time high.  The time is now for Lewis to have a realistic chance to do something in his field after football.

Justin Timberlake: Dude, come on. You could be good at music or suck at acting. Stop making Best Buy commercials with Peyton Manning and the San Diego Chicken, and make another catchy album, so I can have something in common with the girls I date again.

Kody Brown:  Bad enough you’re a Mormon reality “star”, but four wives is a lot of headaches.  He should look into Bayer or Tylenol endorsements.  He could co-star with Donald Trump.

Kris Humphries: I’m not sure if he saw the show because I haven’t, but there’s no way he didn’t see the video.  At least he married on his talent level.

Andy Reid: It wasn’t his call to invest more in Nnamdi Asomugha and Vince Young than his entire group of linebackers, yet he insists on taking the blame.  The Eagles have a lot of talent, but need to be restructured.

Steve Pederson: Your hiring history is skeptical at best. Wife beaters and compulsive liars typically don’t have solid resumes, but you sir: your cup is half-full.

Anyone who participated in Occupy Whatever: You shat in a bag for a few months, yet Wal-Mart still stands. What were you trying to accomplish again?

Everyone wants to have a good year; here are some things I would like to see in 2012:
  • The next seasons of American Horror Story and Walking Dead to be as good as last season.
  • Improved hockey helmets so I can watch my favorite players actually play instead of seeing their brains get turned into mashed potatoes.
  • Jerry Sandusky stumbles and falls awkwardly backwards onto a wooden post.
  • Hangover 3. Just to see if they would change anything this time.
  • A plow truck in Mt. Washington. Oh and a cab on Carson.
  • More Facebook gym check-ins.  Seriously keep reminding me you work out.  I don’t want you people getting lazy. And finally…Lots of snow at Seven Springs, lots of good friends and cherry bombs during Pens games at Carson City Saloon, lots of short skirts the first nice weekend in April, and many more talented musical artists coming out of this fine city.
